The Servant…
17 11 2009Ibn Qayyim (RA) said:
“The servant is not afflicted with a punishment greater in severity than the hardening of the heart and its being distant from Allaah (azza wa jall). The fire was created to melt the hardened heart, this heart which is the most distant of hearts from Allaah (azza wa jall). If the heart becomes hardened, the eye becomes dry and finds no joy or tranquillity.
SubhaanAllaah!

Knowledge
17 11 2009Imaam ash-Shaafi’ee (RA) said:
“All humans are dead except those who have knowledge … and all those who have knowledge are asleep except those who do good (deeds) … and all those who do good (deeds) are decieved except those who are sincere … and those who are sincere are always in a state of worry (for others).
Lets all ponder upon this statement inshaa’Allaah.

Seeking knowledge….
27 10 2009Sufyaan Ath-Thawree (ra), said: “The excellence of knowledge is due only to the fact that it causes a person to fear and obey Allaah, otherwise it is just like anything else.” [Related by ibn Rajab]
Al-Hasan al-Basree (ra), said: “Whoever learns something in the name of Allaah, seeking that which is with Him, he will win. And whoever learns something for other than Allaah, he will not reach the goal, nor will his acquired knowledge bring him closer to Allaah.” [Related by Ibn ul Jawzee]
Ibn Mas`ood (ra), said: “True knowledge is not measured in relationship to how much you memorize and then narrate, but rather, true knowledge is an expression of piety [protecting oneself from what Allaah prohibited and acting upon what He mandated].”Also, “Study and act upon what you learn.” [Related by Aboo Na`eem]

Mothers: Producers of Heroes
13 10 2009“…Mothers play a great role in building a generation. The better a mother is at raising her children, the more successfully the Ummah is built and the more successful it is at producing heroes. You hardly ever see a great man except that a great woman is behind him who left some of her traits in his personality by way of the milk from which he was fed and the warm embrace in which he sought refuge.
Most men find it hard to remove these shining images from their minds that they retain of their mothers. These outstanding images that ran through his veins from a young age remain engraved in his mind, and he cannot help but to remember them with veneration and pride. He recalls the simple, clear words that his mother left his spirit with, and these words grow to become milestones on his path and guiding lights on his quest.
He cannot help but to place himself under the vast shade that his mother provided for him throughout the long course of his life, nurtured by the pleasant emotions and mixed with the eternal days of his life. These realities grow in his spirit and become an inseparable part of his personality that he cannot let go of without letting go of his humanity.
This is why preserving this affection and repaying this kindness with kindness is an obligation in Islam that is directly partnered with Tawhid: {“…and your Lord ordained that you worship only Him, and that you treat your parents with excellence…”} [al-Isra’; 32] And disobedience to them is directly partnered with kufr.
Respect for mothers occupies a very high position on the ladder of Islam, and is very heavy in its scales. It is reported in the ‘Sahih’ that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (saw) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, who is most deserving of my kind treatment?” He replied: “Your mother.” The man asked: “Then who?” He replied: “Your mother.” The man asked again: “Then who?” He replied: “Your mother.” The man asked again: “Then who?” He replied: “Your father.”
I once said to Ibrahim al-Akhdar – the imam of the Haram in Makkah – “Why do you prevent your sweet voice from being heard by the Muslims who come from everywhere to hear it? How can you request to return to Madinah when some people say that hearing you recite the Qur’an is like hearing it descending fresh from the heavens?”
So, he replied: “My treasures in this world are my grandmother and mother, and I must fulfill my responsibilities to them and treat them well. Nobody can do this but me.”
I said: “Why don’t you bring your grandmother here?”
He said: “She refuses to leave Madinah out of fear that she might die outside of it, and her greatest wish is to be buried in the graveyard of al-Baqi’.”
And indeed, Ibrahim actually left the Haram in Makkah and went back to leading a small mosque in Madinah, sticking to the Paradise that is at the foot of his mother and grandmother…”

The lesson will be restarting….
21 09 2009Assalamu ‘alaykum,
Alhamdulillah I am happy to say that the lesson on Fridays will be resuming on the 2nd of October 6pm sharp. We will be covering the study of Imam an-Nawawi’s forty hadith insha’allah.
NOTE: The recording of the lessons will be uploaded on the same night of the recording and will stay up on the site for the weekend only. After that the file will be deleted. However, this time the file will be embedded into the web site which will prevent anyone from downloading the file. This will make those that missed the lesson to make sure that they definitely listen to the lesson on time, otherwise people have a tendency to procrastinate and not end up listening to the lesson. I am sure we have downloaded many lectures in the past and told ourselves: “i’ll listen to it later” but never have!!
Please take some time to do the participate in the poll as well.

A new page is added….THE 40 HADEETH
15 09 2009Alhamdulillaah, the new page ‘THE 40 HADEETH’ has now been added in replacement of ‘the fiqh of Fasting’.
Please be sure to visit this page regularly as this is the latest subject you will be studying with the ustaadh inshaa’Allaah.
At present, the page has a brief biography on the great imaam’s life including some of his works and an introduction to his 40 hadeeth written by himself (RA).
More things are to follow insha’Allaah like the text of each hadeeth which will be uploaded each week or on completion of each hadeeth as you go along and any other information relevant to the subject itself.

‘FIQH OF FASTING’ is to be removed….
12 09 2009Assalaamu Alaykum….
Just to make you all aware, the page ‘FIQH OF FASTING’ will be removed as the month of Ramadhaan approaches its end (I am sad to say) and will be replaced with a new page entitled ‘THE 40 HADEETH’ inshaa’Allaah.
Within this new page you will find a brief introduction to the 40 hadeeth and each week I will be uploading the text of the hadeeth that you had or will be covering inshaa’Allaah, an example can be found below:
This is the first hadeeth of the fourty so I will not be uploading this text again. I hope this helps the student remember the text as you will all be required to memorize each hadeeth, plus it will help your note taking; thats if you all plan to type up your notes which I would highly recommend inshaa’Allaah.
Watch this space….

Who was Imaam an-Nawawee (RA)?
12 09 2009Imaam Muhyee al-Din Aboo Zakariya Yahyaa bin Sharaf al-Nawawee, for short Imaam Nawawee, was born in the village of Nawa in the vicinity of Damascus in 631 A.H. (1233 A.D.). He grew up in Nawa and at the age of nineteen went to study in Damascus which was considered the center of learning and scholarship.
During his stay at Damascus, Imaam Nawawee studied from more than twenty celebrated teachers, regarded as masters and authorities of their fields and disciplines. He studied Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence and principles, syntax and Etymology from great scholars such as Abu Ibrahim Ishaaq bin Ahmad AI-Maghribi, Aboo Muhammad Abdur-Rahmaan bin Ibraaheem Al-Fazari, Radiyuddin Abu Ishaaq Ibraahem bin Abu Hafs Umar bin Mudar Al-Mudari, Abu Ishaaq Ibraaheem bin Isa Al-Muradi, Abul-Baqa Khalid bin Yoosuf An-Nablusi, and Abul-Abbaas Ahmad bin Salim Al-Misri.
Imaam Nawawee had endless thirst for knowledge. He used to read twelve lessons daily and wrote commentaries on every lesson. Whatever books he read, he would write marginal notes and explanations on each book. His intelligence, hard work, love, devotion and absorption in his studies amazed his teachers and they became fond of him and began to praise and admire him. Allaah had also conferred upon him the gift of fast memorization and depth of thought. Imaam Nawawee made full benefit of his God given qualities and potentialities and earned the highest degree of honor.
Imaam Nawawee led a life of singular piety, righteousness and simplicity. After over 20 years, he returned to his hometown. Soon after his arrival at Nawa, he fell ill and died in 676 A.H. (1278 AD).
Imaam Nawawee had a very short life but during this short period, he had written a large number of books on different subjects. Every work has been recognized as a valuable treasure of knowledge. Among them are:-
•Riysad as-Saaliheein
•Sharh Saheeh Muslim
•Sharh Sunan Abee Daawud
•Kitaab-ur-Rawdah
•Tahdheeb-ul-Asmaa was-Sifaat
•Arba’een
•Mukhtasar at-Tirmidhee
•Tabaqat ash-Shafee’iyyah
•Muhimmatul-Ahkaam
•al-Adhkaar
•al-Tibyan fi adab hamalat al-Qur’aan
•al-Irshad wa’l-Taqrib fi ‘Uloom al-Hadeeth
•al-Minhaj
His Sharh Saheeh Muslim is a standard text book for the study of Hadith while his al-Minhaj is used for the study of Fiqh.
NB. this is a very brief summary of the great shaykh’s life.

Please note….
10 09 2009Assalaamu Alaykum wa RahmatUllaahi wa Barakaatuh,
Please note that after Ramadhaan, all the following recorded lectures that are uploaded to the ‘LESSON DOWNLOADS’ page will only remain ‘ACTIVE’ for the very maximum three days as the ustaadh does not want his lectures wide spread.
I hope you all understand this request and respect the ustaadh’s wishes.
The only reason why they are uploaded is for those regularly attending students who may miss a lesson due to personal reasons for them to catch up with their notes.
JazaakumUllaahu Khayraa.
